I gotta say, at first I thought Doug's viewpoint on harry being a dick and the Dursleys being victims was funny. But now I feel like its overplayed and reaching. You are extremely quick to dismiss and excuse the negative behavior of Draco, or Dudley talking about angst and trauma but you completely ignore the trauma that was inflicted on Harry. If you wanna take the outlook that trauma and upbringing may be causing the issues that's fine but you need to apply them equally. You seem to gloss over that harry was literally locked in a closet for punishment. That he was physically abused by Dudley and that abuse was encouraged by Vernon. Harry also suffered neglect ontop of the direct abuse. And he was punished whenever he inadvertently performed magic. Dont you think harry would be a little traumatized when hes running from Dudleys gang, who is physically harming him, and he tries to jump behind a trashcan but he ends up on the roof. He has no idea hes magic cause his "guardians" have lied to him, so suddenly hes on the roof of the school and being punished by school administration and hes like wtf.. I have no idea how I got up there I just jumped to which people will then call him a liar, probably dismiss his claims that he was getting assaulted and view him as a troublemaker. That's trauma.. you really like to carefully dissect and fill in "what ifs" when it comes to excusing the behavior of the antagonists, while all the while giving absolutely no benefit of the doubt to harry and dismissing the probable psychological harm his upbringing has caused him.
